Music by J.S. Bach
As part of his continuing exploration of J. S. Bach's Clavier-Übung collection, harpsichordist Carsten Schmidt performs the magisterial Goldberg Variations (BWV 988). This work, published in 1741 as Volume IV of the Clavier-Übung series, includes a theme and 30 variations. It is one of the most performed, and one of the most technically demanding solo keyboard compositions written during the 18th century. Bach revels in both virtuosity and contrapuntal wizardry, with variations ranging from the comic to the sublime. |
