Produced by the SMF in association with the Office of International Programs at James Madison University, the international weekend is an exploration of non-Western musical traditions and their relation to composers working within the classical repertoire. This year's theme is China.

A celebration of traditional Chinese music combined with chamber music, vocal, and choral works by contemporary composers Chen Yi, Tan Dun, Zhou-Long, Bright Sheng, and Huang Ruo. Featuring pipa virtuoso Min Xiao-Fen.

An adventurous program combining traditional Chinese music with responses from the West, including works by Couperin, Cage, & Debussy. Also, the world premiere of a new jazz work by Chuck Dotas, featuring pipa virtuoso Min Xiao-Fen and many of our regular SMF performers.
