| Inspired by Bach's celebrated visit to Sanssouci in 1747, this program features a new performance of The Musical Offering by SMF artistic director Carsten Schmidt, plus sonatas by composers who were present at the historic event: J. Quantz, Frederick II himself, and Bach's son Carl Phillip Emanuel. C.P.E. Bach is represented with recently discovered keyboard music prepared for publication by C.P.E. scholar Pamela Fox. In addition to the concert, there will be a free lecture discussing C.P.E. Bach and musical life at Sanssouci. The lecture will be presented by the President of Mary Baldwin College, and reknowned C.P.E. scholar, Pamela Fox and SMF concert commentator Jason Stell. The lecture will be held in the Francis Auditorium at 4 pm. Please note the location and new time. Drinks will be served prior to the concert at 6.30 pm in the Student Acivities Center. The concert will be followed by dessert. |
